The BlackBerry PlayBook Unveiled!

The prediction from enthusiast that BlackBerry maker Research in Motion will come out with its own tablet is true. However, they've got it wrong on the name.

The new 7-inch, camera-packing tablet is called the BlackBerry PlayBook instead of the BlackPad! What kind of name is BlackPad? (duh!) CEO Mike Lazaridis showcased the long-rumored device during RIM’s BlackBerry developer conference in San Francisco.

RIM says the BlackBerry PlayBook will arrive in the U.S. early 2011, and overseas markets in the second quarter of next year. No pricing details available yet.

More details:
0.9-pound tablet
9.7mm (or 0.4 inch) thick
rumoured to comes with pair of cameras: a 5-megapixel camera in the back, and a 3MP lens in front
capable of recording HD video
resolution of 1024 by 600
capacitive multitouch display - good for multi-finger gestures as punching and zooming.

The PlayBook will run on new tablet OS by QNX Software Systems powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor with a whopping 1GB of onboard RAM (iPad only has 256MB!).
Support multitasking and Flash as well as multimedia-friendly HTML5 Web standards.

The PlayBook will feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, both 3G and 4G versions is in the pipeline. Expect "nonproprietary" microUSB and micro-HDMI ports, with the PlayBook capable of running full-on 1080p video via HDMI.

The PlayBook can be a BlackBerry companion (or "amplified" BlackBerry) in addition to a stand-alone slate.

The new QNX OS will definitely be interesting with all the PlayBook features that comes with it.

Will it be the best tablet ever and shove off the Apple's iPad? This we've got to see!
